the vanishing time, and the removing of hats
Sometimes I feel a bit like this guy. Only with more sparks.
Hello to all and my apologies for a rather extended absence from the blogosphere. I took a little break from my own social media world to make sure that all the other areas of my life were caught up on their to-do lists and generally re-align my life.
Despite my best efforts at procrastination (you laugh, but I’m not at all kidding) I’ve turned in a manuscript, almost finished another (both really short ones for the ESL market), handed over the presidency of CWILL BC to some very capable other members and then spent the past week polishing up the Gumboot Books website and setting in motion our marketing plans for the next 12 months. All in between presenting at 4 conferences in the past 5 weeks… so much for my weekends!
While I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 year stint as Pres/VP for CWILL, I have to say it is with much relief that I pass the torch. Two years ago when I volunteered for the position I was definitely in a different place in my career’s evolution, and managed to handle the extra responsibilities without too much difficulty. However, I have definitely noticed that my own writing is always the first thing to go out the window when time gets squeezed tightly (let’s be honest here, any time something else comes up!).
So, now begins a slightly calmer phase with some of my classes that I teach winding down, no more CWILL responsibilities, and the lightest publishing year Gumboot Books has ever head coming up for 2010/2011. We’ve deliberately scaled back our growth to allow ourselves the time to give each of our projects the attention it deserves during the week, and to give ourselves the time that we deserve on the weekends! Crazy you say? Well, yes… but totally doable if I manage to stay on top of my OMNI FOCUS lists!
Since balance is key, I’m now going to sign off and attempt to get myself to bed before midnight. It’s off to the gym again in the morning…
Yep. The GYM, gym. I finally figured out that I can read while on the stationary bike or the treadmill. Since I don’t have a whole lot of time lately for reading “grown up” books that I’m reading just because I want to, I figure if I allow myself to read whatever I want while exercising, it’s a pretty good motivator to get that extra few minutes in ; )
What you said at the end. Balance is key. Welcome back, sounds like you had an awfully busy year! Congrats on turning in that manuscript!
So…gym…as in exercise? Huh. I have a treadmill. I should use it more often.
